WHAT IS REIKI?
Reiki (pronounced ray key) is a safe and effective form of energy healing done by the initiated practitioner laying on or hovering over of hands or by distance treatment. One of its earliest forms was practiced in ancient Tibet as a means of spiritual self-improvement. In modern times it was reintroduced in Japan by Dr. Makao Usui (1865 – 1926). During his lifetime he performed many acts of healing and eventually initiated Master Teacher Chujiro Hayashi to continue the work after his death. Dr. Hayashi later initiated Reiki Master
Hawayo Takata who was responsible for bringing the Usui system of Reiki to America in the late 1930’s.
The best definition I have heard for Reiki is that it is Spiritually Guided Life Force Energy. Life force, sometimes referred to as prana (Sanskrit) or chi (Japanese), is the non-physical energy that animates all living things. It is what gives us pep, what makes the flowers grow, what infuses our breath with power and sustains all life. With Reiki we add the element of spiritual guidance meaning Universal Consciousness or Higher Self is informing the life force energy to bring about the most healing outcomes.
REIKI IS NOT A RELIGION
While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is NOT a religion. It has no dogma and there is nothing you must believe in order to receive the benefit of Reiki treatments or to become a practitioner. In fact, Reiki is not dependent on belief at all. It will work whether you believe in it or not. And because Reiki energy is guided by Universal Higher Consciousness, it can never cause harm. It always knows what a person, an animal or a location in time or space (Reiki works for all of these) needs and will adjust itself to create the most positive healing outcomes.

Sometimes our wounds are physical in nature and Reiki will aid the healing process in a variety of ways. Some of these include alleviating pain, reducing inflammation and healing time of broken limbs, incisions, cuts and bruises. Supporting the body in overcoming chronic and acute illnesses. Additionally Reiki is a highly effective method for restoring balance to our mental and emotional states while clearing energy blockages held in the physical or subtle body.
